Customized courses, training the way you want it, when you want it.

QUESTION AND ANSWER

The Question...
We know that every organization has unique computing environments and challenges. So, how do you find a structured IT training plan that's just right for your environment?

The answer: STS' customized course development
Simonson Technology Services' customized course development starts with determining the needs of the customer, agreeing on material, combining existing modules from standard courses and writing new modules, editing, updating, and preparing the material, and finally delivering it to the customer.

THE PROCESS

Initial Contact
Normally, either we are notified by a third party or by a client directly to let us know they are interested in training. If during our initial communication, it's determined that we don't have a standard course to fit their needs, we move on to phase one.

Phase One: Gathering Information
We will ask them information about the kind of training they are interested in, the environments and platforms that they run, and what trouble (if any) they are having with their systems. - This usually gives us a pretty good idea of a course that we can put together for them.

Phase Two: Creating and Reviewing the Outline
The next phase is generating an outline for the customer to review. Our staff look at the different modules we have, that if combined, would be a good fit for the customers needs. Then put together an outline listing the major topics that would be covered in the clients custom built class. This is followed by a conference call between the course developer, instructor, and any representatives of the client. During the call, more specifics are ironed out and updates are made if applicable. At the end of this phase, the client has a clear idea what they will get in terms of a delivery and curriculum.

Phase Three: Editing, Updating and Formatting
When the customer approves the outline, development starts. If, for example a customer is having performance problems with their custom sales force automation tool written in C++ using a SAN backend. We can take modules from our Kernel Internals, and Performance Tuning courses to adddress the C++ and Performance issues, and modules from our Storage Area Network course to address that. Once we have the main subjects covered, we can add modules to 'glue' the other sections together. Voila, we have our initial custom course. A significant amount of requirements gathering, research, formatting, and other work occurs before the class is considered complete.

Phase Four: Finalizing Logistics
Once the customer schedules a date, we move forward getting the manuals printed and delivered, and organizing the logistics of when and where the class will be held. Generally in these situations, the class is usually at the customers site, so the instructor can work on the customers technology while delivering the class.

Phase Five: The Delivery
Then the class is delivered, and that's it. The customer keeps the paper copies of the material and STS retains ownership and rights to the content. See what people say about our past course deliveries.
