STS-3351: Veritas Volume Manager 3.2 Database Edition

Course Description:
The Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas File System for Solaris provides the student with the necessary background and product knowledge to plan, configure, administer and perform basic recovery actions for the Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) and Veritas File System (VxFS) products. The course material is written for the 3.2 release of VxVM, and the 3.4 release of VxFS. The Veritas Foundation Suite Database Edition will usually be used in the classrom exercises.

Performance and troubleshooting issues are stressed throughout the course. The course includes a series of practical lab exercises. At the STS location, all exercises will be performed using EMC Symmetrix equipment in a full Fibre Channel switched fabric environment.

Prerequisites:
Attendees are expected to possess basic Unix system administration skills. While the course is taught using the Sun Solaris environment, detailed knowledge of Solaris is not required. However, the instructor may not have time to teach students prerequisite skills that they are lacking.

Attendees should be able to:

  • Perform basic Unix system administration tasks
  • Understand basic Unix I/O concepts
  • Install standard System V packages using the pkgadd command
  • Create and mount file systems using the newfs or mkfs and mount commands
